This summer, two siblings from Palestine, hosted at MdM Open Accommodation Center “A Step Forward,” had the chance to experience summer camp life at the City of Athens facilities in Agios Andreas and at Happy Children – Happy Youth. It was the first time they spent so long away from their mother, their familiar environment, and the difficult memories of their homeland.

Their days were filled with activities, games, and new friendships. They learned to take care of themselves, work as part of a team, and gained confidence and independence. One of the children even won a swimming award, proving that with encouragement and opportunity, every child can unfold their talents.

Meanwhile, their mother at the Center was able to use this time to rest, care for her health, and participate more actively in psychosocial and educational support programs. This summer experience was an important step forward for the children and the whole family, showing how such initiatives can strengthen resilience and help families on their path to safety, hope, and belonging.
